It only took me 5 months, but I’m finally moved into my condo. I unpacked the last box today and put everything where it needs to go. It’s going to be a great weekend.

I’m addicted to iPhone Apps

That’s right, I have a problem with iPhone apps. I’ve got seven pages of apps on my phone and there is about 10 pages more that just sit in itunes just waiting to get used. This isn’t usually a problem, but I find myself scrolling to several different pages a lot. So starting tonight I’ve moved everything off my home screen. Over the next week I’m going to keep a tally of what apps I use the most, and those will go on my home screen. Sounds like fun doesn’t it

The one post a day thing was a little more than I could handle. To that end I will be switching my focus from one a day to one a week. That was I’ll be able to keep up with writing them, as well as write posts for a couple more blogs I work on.

It’s been a super long week, so this is kind of a throw away post. I’m sitting here on my couch watching Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and I just finished off the first bottle of Pepsi Throwback i’ve had in a long time. It’s fantastic! So this is my plea to Pepsi, keep throwback around. This limited time stuff sucks

I’ve been watching this show for awhile now, and it gets better every week. If you haven’t see Kevin Pollak’s Chat Show you need to go check it out. It’s hours of fun with Kevin chatting with other celebrities like Kevin Smith, Matthew Perry, Weird Al, Kevin Nealon, Seth McFarland, and so many more.

I’m watching the Weird Al episode right now, and my god is it funny. You can watch live on Sundays 8pm EST time (5pm PST), or catch them on iTunes like I do. The best part os these is they come in both video and audio format, so if you need something to listen to at the gym this is awesome!

The Patriots season is over, and it ended painfully. I’m not sure who showed up to play today, but those aren’t that patriots I know. Hopefully they figure out what they need to fix for next year. The Patriots have a young defense and assuming Wes Welker comes back next year should be interesting.

NFL Playoffs Have Begun!

I love this time of year. Plenty of great football games on, each one broadcast nationally. The Jets look very impressive, and Mark Sanchez looks like a pro out there. I’m watching the Eagles – Cowboys game right now, and so far it looks to be just as good as last weeks matchup between these two teams was.

Tomorrow afternoon the Patriots play the Ravens, and the Cardinals play the Packers at 4:00pm. Both games are going to be tough, but I think the Pats and the Packers will come out on top.

Thats it for today, got to go back to the game

jQuery Cookbook

I don’t know what to say about this book. It’s absolutely fantastic. Every chapter has something in it that helps me greatly. If you are a front end developer who already uses jQuery or someone who is thinking about making the switch pick up this book, you will love it.

This is going to be a short post today since i’m going to go read the book haha.

To Code or Not to Code…

I’ve got a question for my fellow developers. Imagine you are shown a design for an image gallery. You’ve never seen a gallery like this in your travels, but your sure if you looked around enough you’d find something that would do the job (maybe with a few changes anyway). Do you take the time to find something you could use, or do you start fresh and code it yourself?

All programmers learn early on that “re-inventing the wheel” is a waste of time and should be avoided. I will usually code my own versions of things so I have absolute control over how everything displays. This is especially helpful when the designer or client comes back and says “hey can we change this thing” or “we would really like this new feature”. Obviously there are other factors that play into your choice. Everything from project time to your current mood might change your approach.

So what do you think? If time or money weren’t factors, would you have a little fun and write the code yourself, or scour the web for something thats almost what you need and modify that till it works? Post a comment and let me know.

I’ve only got 40 minutes left in the day! For some reason today was packed full of stuff to do, and i’ve got more to do tomorrow. Still got to finish up my twitter plugin, and got to clean up the flickr plugin at some point too.

Someday I’ll figure out how to fit more hours into the day. Until then i’ll have to set some more reasonable goals.
